Software engineer, student, and a bit of a tinkerer.

I am a software engineer based in Norfolk, UK, currently studying alongside the work I take on. Most of what I do is web: the site you are reading, the client projects listed under Projects, and a long tail of tools that exist because something annoyed me enough to fix it.

I started with Perl, which is still what a good deal of my production code is written in, and have since spent most of my time in TypeScript and C#. I like the whole stack rather than one slice of it - I would rather understand the database, the server and the reverse proxy than hand any of them to someone else.

Everything I build, I host and maintain myself: Docker on servers I administer, behind Caddy, with my own analytics rather than someone else’s. That is partly stubbornness and partly the belief that you do not really understand a system until you have been woken up by it.

Away from the keyboard I am usually breaking something else and then, eventually, fixing it.
